چکیده

In peer-to-peer games, cheaters can easily disrupt the game state computation and dissemination, perform illegal actions and unduly gain access to sensitive information. We propose AntiCheat – a cheat detection and prevention protocol following a mutual verification approach complemented with information exposure mitigation. It is based on a randomized dynamic proxy scheme for both the dissemination and verification of actions and further reduces the information exposed to players close to the minimum required to render the game. We build a proof-of-concept prototype on top of Quake III. Experimentations with up to 48 players show that opportunities to cheat can be significantly reduced, even in the presence of colluding cheaters, while keeping good performance.

A Peer Auditing Scheme for Cheat Detection in MMOGs

Although much of the research into massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs) focuses on scalability concerns, other issues such as the existence of cheating have an equally large practical impact on game success. Cheat prevention itself is usually addressed through the use of proprietary, ad-hoc or manual methods, combined with a strong centralized authority as found in a straightforward clien...

RACS: A Referee Anti-Cheat Scheme for P2P Gaming

Peer-to-peer (P2P) architectures provide better scalability than Client/Server (C/S) for Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOG); however, they increase the possibility of cheating. Existing P2P cheat solutions only prevent protocol level cheats, ignoring two prevalent forms of cheating: information exposure (IE) and invalid commands (IC). This paper proposes the Referee Anti Cheat Scheme (RA...

Evaluating compass routing based AOI-cast by MOGs mobility models

The increasing popularity of Multiplayer Online Games (MOGs) is revealing a huge interest from the research community. Many solutions exploiting P2P technologies have been proposed in order to overtake the limits of the centralized infrastructures. These solutions are based on the definition of a proper dynamic P2P overlay and exploit the concept of Area of Interest (AOI) to filter the informat...

Message from P2P-NVE Program Chair

The rapid growth and popularity of networked virtual environments (NVEs) such as Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs) in recent years have spawned a series of research interests in constructing such large-scale virtual environments. For increasing scalability and decreasing the cost of management and deployment, more and more studies propose using peer-to-peer (P2P) architectures to const...

Unified Multi-scale Corner

We define a universal gradient-based representation for V-, Tand X-type corners. This expression is used to define a corner detector, based on Moments of the Gradient in Scale-space (MoGS). The performance of this operator is compared with that of the Plessey and the Kitchen and Rosenfeld operators. The MoGS operator is shown to have better invariance to scale, to be more reliable and to provid...
